South Australia has large regions of interpreted high crustal heat flow and elevated geothermal gradients often associated with buried Mesoproterozoic to Carboniferous granitic bodies, which form key exploration targets for Engineered Geothermal Systems. Other potential geothermal energy targets include known Hot Sedimentary Aquifer systems in the  Great Artesian Basin in north-eastern South Australia and the Otway Basin in the State‚Äôs south-east.
