Core library closures

In preparation for moving the state's drill core from current facilities to the new State Drill Core Reference Library which is under construction at the resources precinct at Tonsley, there will be a phased closure of current facilities.

Whyalla facility:     Now closed - drill core has been moved to Moonta satellite core library
Moonta facility:      No longer open for inspections
Glenside facility:    Closed for inspections after 31 July 2015

Submission of Samples

Drill hole samples obtained from mineral and petroleum exploration in South Australia must be submitted to the Department of State Development 's Drill Core Storage Facility using the Petroleum Core and Cuttings Submission Form including the guidelines (.PDF) 91KB.

Inspecting Core

Explorers can inspect the Drill Core Storage Facilities extensive collection.
Inspections can be organised by booking online through the South Australian Resources Information Geoserver (SARIG) - go to Geodata then Core Inspections. Data for drill hioles in South Australia including stratigraphy, lithology andcore sample informaiton can also be downloaded from SARIG.
