About the Geoscience Library

As part of the Department of State Development, Resources and Energy Divisions, the Geoscience Library (formerly the South Australian Department of Mines and Energy Library) was established in 1948 from an informal collection held by the Geological Survey of South Australia.

It holds the largest collection of published and unpublished material dealing with South Australian geology, with a particularly strong national and international collection of Geological Survey publications from all states around Australia, and countries overseas, including the United States of America, Canada, Sweden and South Africa.

The collection contains books, journals, theses and electronic publications on various geoscience topics including geology, mining, petroleum and energy, paleontology, environmental science, hydrogeology and groundwater. It also contains rare and valuable books and early departmental publications dating back to the 1800s. We welcome inquiries from industry, academic institutions, other libraries and the general public.
