To report a serious incident to DEM, as required by Section 85(2) of the Petroleum and Geothermal Energy Act 2000, licensees should contact the serious incident reporting hotline on: (08) 8463 6666. For more information please visit the Compliance and Monitoring webpage | DEM-ERD has just released the first “Basin in a Box” data-package covering the Simpson and Pedirka Basins. The dataset is available via the “Data and Publications” page. Each package is a consolidated set of seismic and well data to facilitate new ventures and exploration assessments of frontier basins in South Australia. Data releases for other frontier basins will follow.

A practical two day workshop for mineral explorers

banner IOCG workshop

Monday 2 December and Tuesday 3 December 2019 , 8.30 am to 4.30 pm
South Australia Drill Core Reference Library, 5 Tonsley Boulevard, Clovelly Park, SA 5042

Complements Geological Survey of South Australia Discovery Day 2019 on Thursday 28 November.

South Australia hosts some of the world’s most significant iron oxide-copper-gold (IOCG) deposits. Since the discovery of Olympic Dam, IOCG deposits have been recognised elsewhere in the Gawler Craton and in a number of terranes world-wide.

The workshop, facilitated by the Geological Survey of South Australia (GSSA), will discuss current understanding of iron oxide copper-gold mineral systems, bringing together local and international examples:

  • Alteration facies and their application to mapping the mineral system
  • Lithospheric to deposit scale footprints
  • Key deposit characteristics

Includes a drill core display covering the range of South Australia’s IOCG deposits including a major showcase of drill core from Olympic Dam.

Confirmed speakersTopic
Keynote speaker
Dr Louise Corriveau, Geological Survey of Canada
An expert in mineral assemblages related to alteration, Louise brings a wealth of knowledge on progressive alteration related to IOCG systems from her extensive work in the Great Bear Province, Canada
Kathy Ehrig, BHP Geology of the Olympic Dam deposit
Mitchell Neumann, Oz Minerals Characteristics of the Carrapateena ore system
Glen Little, Minotaur Exploration and Richard Lilly, University of Adelaide Geology and mineralisation of the Cloncurry district
Liam Courtney-Davies and Max Verdugo-Ihl, University of Adelaide Nanoscale processes around IOCG deposits
Stephan Thiel, GSSA Lithospheric-scale view of an IOCG mineral system
Adrian Fabris, GSSA Geochemical and alteration characteristics of IOCG deposits in the Olympic Cu-Au Province
